Pinewood Derby

What is it?

The pinewood derby is a racing event for unpowered, unmanned miniature cars. Pinewood derbies are often run by chapters (packs) of the Cub Scout program. With the help of adults, Scouts build their own cars from wood, usually from provided kits containing a block of pine wood, plastic wheels, and metal axles.

When is it?

Typically, the Pinewood Derby is held in February. The date for the Pinewood Derby will be added to the Pack Calendar and shared at both Pack and Den meetings.

How can I help?

Cub Scouting is fun for the whole family.  Getting everyone involved makes the experience more meaningful for your Cub Scout.  There is a place for every parent, legal guardian, or other caring adults who want to help. If you’d like to volunteer to help with the event, please contact us. We will reach out to you with further details.
